Sarrià is one of the biggest districts of Barcelona, Spain, surrounded by districts of Les Corts, Gràcia, Eixample i Horta-Guinardo, and by the villages of Sant Just, Sant Feliu, Molins de Rei and Sant Cugat. The first written document found about Sarrià dates from the year 987, and the origins of the village are a Roman colony. The old Monastery of Pedralbes belonged to the village of Sarrià and now it's the Thissen-Bornemisza museum of Barcelona. Part of the Collserola mountain belongs to the district, where the Tibidabo and the Obervatori Fabra are, and is a popular place to promenade by bike or by foot, or to stop by the road to Sant Cugat with impressive views over the city. Tibidabo is the highest point of the Serra de Collserola, an extensive woodland area that has been converted into a metropolitan park 500 metres above sea level. There is an excellent panoramic view of the city from the top. The Temple Expiatori or Church of Atonement, the Amusement Park and the Collserola Communications Tower, 268 metres high, are silhouetted against the skyline. The Amusement Park, which opened in 1900, combines traditional and symbolic attractions such as the "Atalaya" which dates from 1921, or the Automata Museum, the Museu d’Autòmats, with the most modern facilities. The means of transport par excellence to visit Tibidabo is the Tramvia Blau (Blue Tram), a true symbol of Barcelona’s identity, which leaves you at the foot of the Tibidabo Funicular Railway which will take you on the last leg of your journey to the top of the hill and Plaça del Tibidabo.
