Places To Visit in Barcelona
Barcelona- the capital of Catalunya and the city of changing faces is the incarnation of modernism. This city vibrates with life and it´s almost impossible to exhaust the widespread variety the city offers during a vacation stay. You will only make it to visit some places of Barcelona and with this page we want to recommend you the ones, which are most worth it to be visited.
La Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia, situated in Eixample, is known as Gaudí´s most famous uncompleted monument. Although construction works already begun in 1883, only a minor part of the plans were be able to fulfill till the death of Gaudí in 1926 (he was run over by a Tram on the Gran Vía and died in hospital two days later). Construction works started again in 1956 after the civil war and until today two facades and eight towers have been completed. The main nave was roofed in 2000. Currently construction is mainly focusing on the nave and the main southern facade known as the Glory Facade. This facade will picture life and death of men. Newel stairs or an elevator can be used to get to the top of the church towers. The mortal remains of the architect are detained in the crypt.

Parc Güell

Antoni Gaudí designed this 20 ha wide garden complex for Lord Güell- one of his friends and patron. The construction works lasted from 1900 to 1914. This was Gaudí´s most ambitious project after the Sagrada Família, commissioned as a private housing estate of sixty dwellings and furnished with paths, recreational areas and decorative monuments. In the end, only two houses were actually built, and the park was opened to the public instead in 1922.

La Rambla

Barcelona´s most famous promenade used to be a riverbed and is approximately 1.2 km long. The Ramblas start at Placa Catalunya and end at the port in front of the Columbus Statue. The further you go, towards Placa Catalunya, the quieter, more pleasant and more expensive the places become. Attractions along the Ramblas including live performances, human statue art and artists that will draw your portrait or caricature.

L´Aquarium

It´s one of the biggest and most modern aquaria within Europe and the worldwide most important one about the thematic Mediterranean Sea with 8000 animals and 300 different species in 21 different living spaces.

Barcelona Zoo

Barcelona Zoological Park first opened its gates in 1892. The zoo is covering 13 ha of Ciutadella Park and containing a collection of some 7,500 individual animals belonging to more than 400 species from all over the world.

Parc de la Ciutadella

The Parc de la Ciutadella is Barcelona´s most central park and was laid out in 1888 for the Universal Exhibition. The park includes the zoo, a large fountain, a lake, several museums and the Catalan Parliament.

Poble Espanyol

The Poble Espanyol or “Spanish Village” was designed for the International Exhibition and its streets and squares consist of famous or characteristic buildings from all over the country. You can find restaurants, discos and shows on the terrain.

Tibidabo

If the weather is good you will have a legendary view from the 550-metre heights of Mount Tibidabo. There is an amusement park, a telecommunications tower (Torre de Collserola), and a Catholic church, the Temple de Sagrat Cor topped with a huge statue of Christ.

Montjüic

Montjüic is translated as Hill of the Jews in the medieval Catalan language. There you can find the Castell (castle) de Montjuïc, from where there are beautiful views of the city. The castle comprises also a military exhibition. You can spend a whole day on the Montjüic with its varied attractions, which include the “Spanish Village”, five museums and galleries, various gardens and the Olympic stadium.

Museu Picasso

The most complete collection of Picasso´s early years, with many works from his so-called Blue-Period. You can also see Velazquez´s Menina, a very complete collection of lithographs and various ceramics from his later period.
