Quartier / Ville: La Barceloneta Rue: carrer Sant Miquel Transport : Barceloneta |
The apartment is in a narrow, quiet street (Carrer Sant Miquel) in the district Barceloneta ("little Barcelona"), which is the old fishing quarter of Barcelona. Among the views from the two balconies are the yacht harbor ("Port Vell"), a glimpse of the open sea, and our local 18th century parish church.
Beautiful sandy beaches, long beach and harbor promenades, some of the best seafood restaurants in the city (including an award-winning 100 year old little gem right across the street), bars and picturesque terraces. You can rent a bicycle around the corner and also check your e-mail, cycle down to a beach cafe to enjoy a great breakfast on a sunny sea facing terrace. Or make your own breakfast in the apartment and enjoy it on the balcony. The English Fastnet cafe & sports bar is a block away.
The Barceloneta Nautical Athletic Club, nearby, has a great free-weights and aerobics room, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, sauna, restaurant, and its own private beach.
Also possible, with all necessary equipment rentable nearby: Rollerblading, windsurfing & sailing.
Easily reached on foot(or bicycle or rollerblades) :
The Olympic Village, with its "Icaria Multiplex Cinema"(movies in English) and many seaside restaurants and clubs and the Port Olympic Yacht Harbor; the "Maremagnum" Entertainment Complex with its exclusive shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs; Europe's largest Fish tank, the "Aquarium", and the 3-D cinema complex "Imax"; The beautiful Park Ciudadella (built, if we are not mistaken, by Napoleon); The Gothic Quarter and the 11th century gothic Cathedral (within whose beautiful and hallowed walls can be found much of the history of Catalunya.); The Ramblas; the Medieval part of the city which contains many palacios and museums (The Picasso); Place Real, with its very interesting and quite excellent restaurants, cafes and clubs. A bit of history can be found here: some bullet holes from the Spanish civil war still remain in the walls. You will also want to visit the ancient but trendy El Borne. This district of bohemian artists, ancient churches, boutiques, galleries, cafes, restaurants, jazz clubs and specialty shops also has the beautiful and ethereal 12th century Basilica Santa Maria del Mar.
Just beyond the Ramblas you can walk to Paseo de Gracia, the most elegant boulevard in all of Barcelona where you will find the choicest shops and restaurants plus several of Gaudi's more elegant buildings.
