Do you want to eat traditional meals of the Catalan Cuisine? Barcelona’s restaurants and bars offer various Catalan menus. Since our apartments are situated in the center of Barcelona, you will find many Catalan restaurants near your accommodation!

Barcelona’s ‘Mar
i Muntanya’

Barcelona is a seaport and fish as well as seafood can be seen on almost all menus. Situated near the mountains, Barcelona’s cuisine offers also traditional meals from the mountains. In Barcelona both cuisines melt together and form the so-called ‘Mar i Muntanya’ (sea and mountains). The combination of crustacean and poultry is very typical. Chicken served with spiny lobster is one of the Catalan specialties- strange, but tasty!

Barcelona Bars

Do you want to catch a small breakfast and a coffee or eat one or two tapas in the afternoon? Go in the bars near our apartments and take a snack! Bars can be found everywhere in the city center of Barcelona. Despite drinks, you can always buy little snacks. Pay attention to the type of the bar. Catalan Specialties

Everybody knows the word ‘Tapas’. But do you also know what it is?
Tapas are little delicious snacks- olives, gammon, fried fishes, tortilla, etc. Depending on the location, a simple tapa costs about 2 euros in Barcelona.

The kitchens of our apartments are well equipped to cook your own meal. Do not hesitate to try to cook a Sarsuela (Seafood Casserole), which has its roots in Barcelona. It is a hotpot containing seafood and fish in a tomato-wine-sauce. Or do you prefer Pasta? Then you should cook a Fideuà (Pasta Paella), a pan-fried pasta dish with fish, calamaris or shrimps.

Barcelona’s Gastronomy: Need-to-Knows

Opening hours

The lunch hours begin at 1.00 pm, sometimes even not before 2.00 pm. If you want to eat your dinner in a restaurant you should not go before 9.00 pm. However, many restaurants already adapted their opening hours to other cultures and open earlier.

Prices

Restaurants offer specials during lunchtime. A meal (menu del día) is available for 6 to 10 euros including a salad, main dish, dessert, and drink. However, you should be aware that the prices are higher in the evening. Barcelona has restaurants of all price classes- from gourmet restaurants to fast food.

Tipping

The usual 10 percent tip is not common in Spain. Natives give little tip and put it at the table, when they leave.
