Barren in Barcelona verschillen van de typische bar om de hoek tot grote trendy barren zoals je die ook in New York en Parijs vindt. De lokale barren beginnen na kantooruren vol te lopen en sluiten gewoonlijk rond middernacht. Alle andere barren blijven open tot 02.00 uur.
Wat jouw stijl ook is, in Barcelona weet je altijd zeker dat er iets naar jouw smaak te vinden is. Sinds het begin van de jaren negentig hebben vele barren hun eigen unieke stijl en sfeer ontwikkeld die vaak wel iets weg heeft van een Picasso schilderij. Het is een uitdaging om hier twee barren die in de zelfde kleur geschilderd zijn te vinden. Allerlei soorten muziek kan er in Barcelona gevonden worden en in aardig wat barren is er regelmatig live muziek of zijn er vaste dj's in het weekend.
"Tomar copas" betekent letterlijk vertaald "drankjes nemen" maar voor de inwoners van Barcelona is het een life style die inhoudt dat het grootste deel van de tijd buitenshuis wordt doorgebracht, drinkend met vrienden.
Als je lang genoeg in Barcelona verblijft, zul je snel nieuwe barren ontdekken die uniek zijn in hun soort en nergens anders ter wereld te vinden zijn.

Great small tapas place in the Born neighborhood. It’s always crowded and you have to eat standing up (there’s a little table at the far end, but it’s always taken). To accompany the tapas, they offer a very nice and inexpensive kind of “champagne” (it’s really white wine with sparkling water).
